Wisconsin Badgers Pro-Day Review

You may not think the Wisconsin Badgers earn a lot of respect for the talent on their roster based on the win loss record. But the number of NFL teams present at the Pro-Day workouts would show that NFL teams respect the talent in Madison.

28 teams showed up to watch the Badgers run through the Pro-Day workouts yesterday and as expected some of the main draftees put on a good workout. Only two players didn’t workout as was expected given their injuries. LBs DeAndre Levy and Johnathan Casillas will work out on April 2nd.

Among the news from the Pro-Day RB P.J. Hill has dropped even more weight since the combine and is down to 218-pounds his lightest weight since his junior year in high school. This shows Hill is taking his workouts seriously as far as getting in shape and performing what the scouts would hope to see. Hill however didn’t do much to improve his overall stock while only clocking 4.65 and 4.63 in the 40-yard dash. Pedestrian like for RBs and it will likely keep Hill from managing move up from a 6th round to undrafted free agent type of prospect.

Kraig Urbik checked in at his same combine height and weight 6-5 328-pounds which is solid for an offensive guard. Urbik also improved his 40-yard dash time a bit running a 5.25 and a 5.30. His run was on field turf (same as at Indy) but outside in the sun. Again he had a solid workout and according to reports overheard from the scouts at his workout Urbik is just what they’re looking for in an offensive guard. He is not by all means the best athlete, the best prospect, but he is a guy that measures well in height and weight for a guard. Then he shows exactly what it’s all about by performing well in all of the drills he’s asked to perform in.

Urbik’s stock is also helped by his versatility in that he could play either guard or tackle position at the next level. That type of versatility is something Bears coaches love out of their linemen. This performance combined with his workout in Indianapolis makes Urbik a very attractive prospect between the 3rd and 5th rounds.

Defensive end Matt Shaugnessy ran a 4.89 40-yard dash but did not do any other drills. A tall well build prospect Shaugnessy could be had in the latter stages in the draft between rounds four and six.
